My Local Foodie (MLF) is a company specialising in helping food businesses become profitable and successful. Through buying group power and advanced software platforms, MLF offers their clients a powerful solution for managing and accurately costing their procurement.
MLF is intent on modernising and creating new capabilities and visibility in the Food Procurement industry. Their brief was to develop a platform that gave everyone in the supply chain access to the latest information for the costing and procurement of food.Design & Strategy
The project was ambitious and on the leading edge of business processes for an industry still accustomed to the fax machine. To give the client the best chance of remaining flexible and nimble to innovate, we took an agile development approach.
With ambitious growth targets, we also needed to architect a solution that would scale to remain fast, stable and easy to use to lure their clients away from their fax machines.
The simple vision for the platform was to replace all Fax Ordering and give chef’s the tools to properly cost and manage their kitchens.Solution
The outcome was the development of the Costimator platform, an eCommerce portal that gives chefs, suppliers and MLF access to an ordering and management portal to speed up procurement while also giving all parties access to the latest pricing and order information.For the Chef
The Costimator provides the tools for chefs to accurately cost their menus down to the last dollop of olive oil. This, crossed with access to real time supplier pricing updates, gives chefs access to the very latest costing information to assess menu profitability. Menu Profitability is the downfall of many a great kitchen.

The Costimator gives suppliers tools for managing pricing and tracking orders for their clients. In a number of food categories, prices fluctuate daily, so the ability to centrally manage and communicate these costs (so chefs can make real time decisions on menus) is extremely valuable.Results
The Costimator is now the central digital nervous system of the MLF business. It’s used to manage hundreds of kitchens and hundreds of suppliers for millions of dollars of orders across Australia.
